The Tanglewood Team
Meet Stacey & Peter, the Father-Daughter Team behind Tanglewood.
Building a retreat centre has always been a lifelong dream of Stacey's and when Peter was looking for a project to give new life to his property in Waimauku, Stacey jumped at the chance to rent the land off Peter and create Tanglewood. Stacey is now the owner/operator of Tanglewood and kaitiaki (guardian) of the whenua (land).
We wanted to create a space that encompassed all of our passions and values. It needed to be environmentally sustainable and forward thinking, yet fun. It also needed to have interesting buildings, events based around yoga, meditation, permaculture and delicious whole foods plant based food. Tanglewood is a Sustainable Playground of sorts. A place for people to come together, relax, socialise, to learn and share ideas.
We wanted somewhere to hold Workshops to share knowledge regarding sustainable living alternatives, as well as offer fun things like small boutique weddings, group holidays and conferences. We were fortunate to have an amazing crew working with us on creating Tanglewood. Riccardo; Brenton & Lachlan, all incredibly talented & qualified builders, and all those who have joined our first couple of Natural Building Workshops and helped create the beautiful Aroha Cobhouse.
All of the buildings have been created using natural and recycled materials; the Pirateship Treehouse built out of an old boat and recycled timber, the Aroha Cobhouse built out of local earth, straw and timber and The Potting Shed lovingly refurbished with salvaged wood. Tanglewood is also powered on eco-tricity, we have composting toilets, collected rainwater and woodfired ovens and hot tubs.
Best of all, for every booking at Tanglewood we plant a native tree on the land.
"As caretakers of this land for future generations, we want to leave it in better shape than when we received it."
